Visit Cartersville, Georgia

Cartersville is a small town in Bartow County, approximately 45 minutes northwest of Atlanta.

From the Creek Indian Tribe, to the Cherokee, to the battles of the Civil War, Cartersville is rich in history and sights to see. There are many historical places to visit like the Etowah Indian Mounds, the Booth Western Art Museum, Bartow History Museum, Cooper’s Furnace and more — and that’s not nearly all there is to do in Cartersville.

In Cartersville, you’ll find Red Top Mountain State Park, located on Allatoona Lake. Enjoy the outdoors with tent and RV campsites, or stay at one of the cozy cottages. You can have a picnic in one of the many picnic areas, take a hike through twelve miles of hiking trails, swim, fish, and even launch your boat in the park. Don’t have a boat? You can rent one at the marina.

If you’re less of an outdoorsman, there is a convention center and restaurant, as well as tennis courts and putt-putt golf inside the park. You can have a great time no matter what your interests are.

While at Lake Allatoona, you should visit the Visitor’s Center for some interesting information on the area and then visit the overlook for a view of the lake, the dam, and the Etowah River.

Drive by Young Brothers Pharmacy and snap a picture of the 1st Coca Cola Wall Advertisement dating back to 1894, then head over to the Tellus Science Museum, a magnificent museum with galleries of fossils, minerals, and hands on science exhibits. The planetarium has a number of astronomy programs available to learn all about our solar system and galaxies beyond, and while you’re at the museum, you can take a tour of the Solar Decathlon House, an entirely solar-powered house.

Whether coming for a day trip or a week-long getaway, you’ll find plenty to do in Cartersville Georgia!

The Biggest Yard Sale Around!

The Dixie Highway 90 Mile Yard Sale is coming June 4-6, 2010! What a great event to find plenty of bargains. The event runs along Dixie Highway from Ringgold, Georgia to Marietta, Georgia. It began in 2006 as a way to promote the area and to celebrate the revitalization of the historic Dixie Highway, and it was such a success that it is now an annual event. Tons of people join in and set up booths to sell their wares, so you’ll never know what you might find as you stop and shop. For more information about the event you can visit The Dixie Highway’s website. http://www.dixiehighway.org/
