Moonlight Hike at Pine Mountain

MoonlightJoin the Moonlight Hike at the Pine Mountain Recreation Area on January 19, 2011. The Cartersville Parks and Recreation will guide this 1.57 mile hike on the Pine Mountain Trail, departing from the west trailhead and takes you to the summit at 1,562 feet above sea level for a spectacular view of Lake Allatoona, the Etowah River Valley and the lights of Cartersville. These views are best by the light of the moon but you may wish to bring a flashlight.

Meet at 5:15 PM for a 5:30 PM departure to the David G. Archer Overlook. Hike may be cancelled if there is bad weather. Contact 770-387-5625 or 770-607-6173 for more details and information.

Directions to the west trailhead from I-75 is exit 288, go east and then right at Pine Mountain Trail and Komatsu signs. Trailhead parking is on the left before the entrance to Komatsu.

Not About Nightingales

The Grand Theatre in downtown Cartersville, Georgia is hosting the play Not About Nightingales presented by StageWorks Theatre Co. on January 21-22 and 28-29, 2011. This Tennessee Williams play is about real events which happened in 1937 at a Philadelphia prison. Convicts protesting the horrid conditions of the prison were locked in a scalding cell where some of them died. This show contains adult subject matter and strong language and is not recommended for children.

100 Years of Memories

The Grand Theatre in downtown Cartersville is wrapping up their centennial celebration on January 15, 2011 at 7 PM by showing a video presentation of 100 Years of Memories of the Grand Theatre. This presentation offers many interviews, photos, and video clips recounting memories and performances from the 1930s to the present. Also part of the celebration is a tribute to the long running technical director, Don Kordecki. Admission is free for this event. Contact 770-386-7343 for more information.

Borderlands Gallery Exhibit

Visit the Booth Western Art Museum anytime from January 11 through April 10, 2011 to see the Borderlands Gallery Exhibit featuring the photography of Kevin Nickell’s Into the Fog. Kevin Nickell is a former staff photographer for the Ansel Adams Gallery at Yosemite National Park. His artwork on display includes impressive black and white photos of nature blanketed by fog.

The admission for this exhibit is the regular admission for the museum and is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and over, $7 for students, children 12 and under and active military is free. Members of the museum are free. For more information about this event and the museum contact 770-387-1300.
