Native American Weapons and Tools

Watch and learn how weapons and tools were made and used by the ancient people on April 9, 2011 from 10 AM to 4 PM at Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site in Cartersville, Georgia. Items will be created while you watch and you can learn why these tools and weapons were necessary and how many of these same things are used today. You can take home a souvenir as well as a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Springtime at the Homestead

Civil WarExperience the sights and sounds of a day in the life of Civil War soldiers at Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, Georgia on April 2 – 3, 2011. Many soldiers on the move camped at the homes of civilians during the war and you can step back in time at the Vaughn cabin to see a reenactment of their encampments during this time.

Kiss Me Kate

Don’t miss the Grand Theatre’s production of Kiss Me Kate, a comedy/musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The play revolves around the production of a play, Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. The two main actors in the play are recently divorced making their jobs rather interesting since their parting was not very amicable. There is fighting, misunderstandings, and a case of mistaken identity making the production of the play rather precarious. You won’t want to miss how it all turns out.

The show can be seen at the Grand Theatre on April 1 – 2, 2011. Showtimes are April 1st at 7 PM, April 2nd at 2 PM and 7 PM.

Ratz in the Attic

Come on out to Tom’s Place in Cartersville, Georgia on March 24, 2011 to shoot some pool and  listen to the band, Ratz in the Attic as they rock the house! The band will take the stage at 8 PM.

Ratz in the Attic perform throughout Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina and have a good mix of Southern Rock, Classic Rock, Country, Blues, and Jazz in their song list. They cover songs from bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Grand Funk Railroad, the Beatles, Wilson Pickett, and the Commodores plus many more. When they are in the house, you better be ready to have a good time!

Hills of Iron

The Iron industry was one of the first industries in Bartow County long before the Civil War. Visit Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, Georgia on March 19, 2011 for guided tours of the historic Iron Hill section of the park. You will hear the roar of 2 iron furnaces and watch molten iron pour from a blast furnace at 2800 degrees fahrenheit. You can make your very own keepsake with a scratch block mold that will be available for purchase.

Artifact ID Day

Have you found an artifact that you can’t identify? Maybe you have something old, but you want to find out just how old? Bring it to Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site in Cartersville, Georgia on March 19, 2011 from 10 AM to 4 PM and let them identify or date it for you. A professional archeologist will be on hand for a day of fun and learning about artifacts. You will see many interesting items there.
