A Bit of British Comedy

The Pumphouse Players will bring A Bit of British Comedy to Cartersville, Georgia on September 9 and 10, 2011. Skits and jokes inspired by British comedians like Benny Hill, Fry and Laurie, and shows like Monty Python will be performed. It is sure to be an evening of silliness and fun. Kip Henderson and his troupe of actors are  presenting this event at the Legion Theater as a fundraiser for the Pumphouse Players.

Plaza Suite

The hilarious comedy, “Plaza Suite” by Neil Simon is being brought to the stage by the Pumphouse Players at the Legion Theater in Cartersville, Georgia on August 26, 27, 28 and September 2, 3, 2011.

The story is a comedic look at 3 different scenarios all taking place in the same suite at different times with different people. The play is being directed by Al Calsetta, Mallory Grantham, and Laurel Lowe.

Kiss Me Kate

Don’t miss the Grand Theatre’s production of Kiss Me Kate, a comedy/musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The play revolves around the production of a play, Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. The two main actors in the play are recently divorced making their jobs rather interesting since their parting was not very amicable. There is fighting, misunderstandings, and a case of mistaken identity making the production of the play rather precarious. You won’t want to miss how it all turns out.

The show can be seen at the Grand Theatre on April 1 – 2, 2011. Showtimes are April 1st at 7 PM, April 2nd at 2 PM and 7 PM.

Bad Dates

The Pumphouse Players’ next production is going to be Therese Rebeck’s Bad Dates, starring Stacy Vacaro and directed by Jeanne Young. It is a completely charming one woman play whose idiosyncratic journey of self discovery involves the Romanian mob, a Buddhist rainstorm, a teenage daughter, shoes, and some very bad dates.

The show runs February 18 – 20 and 25 – 28, 2011. Friday and Saturday evening shows are at 8 PM. Sunday matinee is at 3 PM. Opening night show tickets are the special price of $10. Not About Nightingales

The Grand Theatre in downtown Cartersville, Georgia is hosting the play Not About Nightingales presented by StageWorks Theatre Co. on January 21-22 and 28-29, 2011. This Tennessee Williams play is about real events which happened in 1937 at a Philadelphia prison. Convicts protesting the horrid conditions of the prison were locked in a scalding cell where some of them died. This show contains adult subject matter and strong language and is not recommended for children.

100 Years of Memories

The Grand Theatre in downtown Cartersville is wrapping up their centennial celebration on January 15, 2011 at 7 PM by showing a video presentation of 100 Years of Memories of the Grand Theatre. This presentation offers many interviews, photos, and video clips recounting memories and performances from the 1930s to the present. Halloween Double Feature

The Pumphouse Players presents a Halloween double feature of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Dark Matters at the Legion Theater on October 29 – 31, 2010.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has been adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from the novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is being directed by Mike Harris. Dark Matters is a frightening story written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and is being directed by Barry King. Both plays are perfect to get you in the Halloween spirit.
