Night at the Museum

Explore the Tellus Museum in Cartersville, Georgia on August 4, 2012 from 6 PM to 10 PM with the Wright Brothers, Marie Curie, Galileo, Dr. Who, characters from Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, and more! The museum comes alive with more than 40 different science and science fiction characters! A new planetarium show, “Sizing Up Space” will be featured along with a costume contest for kids.

Kids ages 12 and under are invited to dress up as their favorite science or science fiction character and enter into the costume contest. Awards will be given for different categories and different age groups. You can get all the details of the contest when you buy your tickets. PLEASE NO ADULT COSTUMES.

Tickets are $20 for non-members, $10 for museum members and can be purchased by phone 770-606-5700 ext. 431 or at the front desk. Call in tickets must be purchased by 5 PM on August 3. You will still be able to purchase tickets at the front desk on the night of the event.

Tom Clayton Memorial Car Cruize

Vintage carIf you like muscle cars, vintage cars, and motorcycles, then the Friendship Plaza in downtown Cartersville, Georgia is the place to find them on August 4, 2012. There will be hundreds of cars there from 5 PM to 7 PM competing for the People’s Choice Award and hourly giveaways. If you have a car you would like to show off, it will cost you just a $2 entry fee to compete. Food will be available at the event. You may want to come early to dine at one of the downtown restaurants.

Stick around downtown after the car show to see Babe’s Bayou in concert as part of the 2012 Summer Concert Series. The concert will be from 7 PM to 9 PM. These events are free and brought to you by the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority. For more information, call 770-607-3480.

Great Locomotive Chase Bus Tour

Trace the route of the Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase through Bartow County, Georgia  in this bus tour being presented by the Bartow History Museum, the Etowah Valley Historical Society, and the Cartersville – Bartow Visitors and Convention Bureau. The bus tour departs at 9 AM on June 9, 2012 and returns at 5 PM. There will be stops in Emerson, Allatoona Pass, Cooper’s Furnace, Cartersville, Kingston, and Adairsville.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bartow History Museum gift shop or by phone and they are $35 for members, $40 for non-members. Tickets include bus transportation, lunch, admission to museums and historic sites along the way and other special treats. Call 770-387-2774 for more information.

Summer events at Red Top Mountain

Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, Georgia is offering some fun stuff to do this summer.

Join in a Twilight Hike on Friday evenings through August 3, 2012 from 7:30 PM to 9 PM. The evening starts out in the Discovery Room as you meet one of Georgia’s native snakes. Follow that up with a moderate 1 mile hike led by a park ranger. Be on the lookout for some of the animals that call Red Top Mountain their home. Cost is $1 plus $5 parking.

Saturday evenings through September 1, 2012 brings you some free Mountain Music concerts. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and settle in for an evening of good, foot stompin’ music. A new band will be brought to you each week and the concerts start at 8 PM at the Vaughn Log Cabin located behind the park office. Concerts are free but there is a $5 parking fee.

Tom Clayton Memorial Car Cruize

Classic CarsOnce a month during the summer the Cartersville Downtown Authority will welcome hundreds of classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles to the Friendship Plaza in downtown Cartersville, Georgia for the Tom Clayton Memorial Car Cruize. There is a $2 entry fee for each vehicle which qualifies them for the Peoples Choice Award and hourly giveaways. Bring the whole family out on June 2, 2012 from 5 PM to 7 PM to check out all the cool cars. Future dates for the car show are July 7, 2012 and August 4, 2012.

Enjoy a concert from 7 PM to 9 PM by Eastern Seaboard as part of the 2012 Summer Concert Series.

Dixie Highway 90 Mile Yard Sale

90 miles of bargains will be available on Old Dixie Highway in this 90 Mile Yard Sale on June 1 – 3, 2012. You never know what you might find as you travel from Marietta, Georgia to Tunnel Hill, Georgia. Georgia’s Dixie Highway Association sets up this annual event as a way of bringing back the nostalgia of days gone by when Old Dixie Highway attracted lots of visitors with its roadside markets and diners.

Springtime at the Homestead

Experience some home life during the 1860′s at Springtime at the Homestead at the Vaughn Log Cabin in Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, Georgia on April 21 and 22, 2012 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Volunteers will be demonstrating civilian farm life during the time of the Civil War. You will also be able to visit an encampment that shows how soldiers camped as they passed through the area during the Civil War. There is a $5 parking fee. For more information, call 770-975-0055.
