You will also be able to visit an encampment that shows how soldiers camped as they passed through the area during the Civil War. There is a $5 parking fee. They will be giving guided tours of the historic Iron Hill section of the park. You can watch as they pour molten iron from an operating blast furnace at 2800 degrees fahrenheit. Scratch block molds will be available for purchase if you would like to make your very own keepsake.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An archeologist will be on hand at the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site in Cartersville, Georgia on <strong>March 17, 2012</strong> from 10 AM to 4 PM. See many different and unusual artifacts being shown. If you have an old artifact or heirloom you would like help in identifying, bring it along and see what you can discover. You can also enjoy a day at the park, checking out the Indian mounds and following the nature trail along the Etowah River to learn how the early civilizations used native trees for food and medicine. You can even see a v-shaped fish trap they used to help them catch fish in the river.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Enjoy the coming of spring with a guided hike on Cartersville, Georgia&#8217;s Pine Mountain Trail on <strong>March 3, 2012</strong>. This hike will be led by Cartersville&#8217;s mayor, Matt Santini and the Parks and Recreation department. You will depart from the west trailhead and hike for 1.57 miles to the summit at 1,562 feet above sea level to take pleasure in the awesome views of Lake Allatoona, the Etowah River Valley, and the city of Cartersville.</p>
<p>Meet at the west trailhead at 9:45 AM and be prepared to leave at 10 AM. Directions to the west trailhead from I-75 are as follows: Exit 288, go east, then right at Pine Mountain Trail and Komatsu signs.  The trailhead parking area is on the left just before the gated entrance to Komatsu. For more information, call 770-387-5625. Hike is subject to be cancelled for bad weather.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.downtowncartersville.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/dinosaur-sm.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-269" title="Dinosaur" src="http://www.downtowncartersville.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/dinosaur-sm.jpg" alt="Dinosaur" width="150" height="102" /></a>Jose Santamaria, the director of the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, will present a  summary of life from different time periods in Georgia&#8217;s past on <strong>February 3, 2012</strong> at 7 PM. He has spent the last 20 years collecting and studying fossils in Georgia and he will be discussing them as part of the lecture series at the Tellus Science Museum. Even though Georgia is more well known for its history in minerals, geology, and mining, it has a very fascinating history in Paleontology as well.</p>
<p>Admission to this lecture is included in the regular admission to the museum which is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, $8 for children 3 &#8211; 17 and students with ID. Members of the museum and active military with ID are admitted free. For more information, call 770-606-5700.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Learn about the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II at an evening lecture at the Bartow History Museum on January 26, 2012.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Evening lectures take place the last Thursday of each month at 7 PM at the Bartow History Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. KSU professor Dr. Jennifer Dickey will be this month&#8217;s featured guest and she will be presenting an overview of the Tuskegee Airmen from World War II on <strong>January 26, 2012</strong>. An exhibit on the Tuskegee Airmen curated by Kennesaw State University will be on display at the Bartow History Museum from January 23, 2012 through March 17, 2012.</p>
<p>Museum Admission is $5.50 for adults, $4.50 for senior citizens &amp; students, children under 5 and active-duty military with ID admitted free.<br />
The Museum Hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sundays and Major Holidays. Call 770-382-3818 for more information.</p>
